For all the Digital Sculpting enthusiasts out there, Pixologic has released ZBrush 4R4! This upgrade is completely free for current, registered users of the ZBrush software and available for both Windows and Mac. ZBrush users can now expand their sculpting arsenal with a plethora of new tools and brushes to use at their disposal. Pixologic is making large strides in simplifying technical tasks that used to be time consuming chores. Visit Zbrush Cental and check out their collection of brand new images and videos that will better explain the new features that ZBrush 4R4 has to offer.
Here are some of the major tools that I am looking forward to exploring:
Insert Multi Mesh Tool – this new feature combines entire libraries of objects into a single brush. Think of having a brush for a model train. Within the brush you have all the engine pieces, tracks, wheels, lights, gears, pistons, etc. Choose from all the pieces or accessories and customize your model to your heart’s content!
Tri Part Multi Mesh Brushes – this is similar to the IMM Tool, but with this version you can set two end-caps and a middle segment for a model and apply these segments to a curve. The tool will apply the two end-cap models to the ends of the curve and fill the length of the curve with duplicates of the middle segment piece. ZBrush users can instantly build things like chains, zippers and cords.
QRemesher Alpha – this tool is the one I am most excited for. Retopologizing high density models is such a chore, but with this new tool users can automatically or semi-automatically clean mesh topology. Special automasking and control guides allow the user to control the retopology algorithm for maximum results quickly and easily.
Topology Brush – this new feature is a brush that allows the user to quickly and easily retopologize their work with precision. Now the user can draw new polygons on the fly and instantly generate a retopologized mesh with or without thickness. This will be a great tool for building form-fitting props or clothing.
Mesh Fusion – this allows users to swap parts of a model with another model, and ZBrush will seamlessly bridge the two new polygonal pieces.
Undo History Tool – ZBrush now holds 10,000 available steps to your Undo capability. A new history slider will allow users to scrub through the Undo History as if they were watching a movie in reverse.
Along with these featured tools, Zbrush has made big enhancements to their transpose tool and enhancements to the dynamesh tool. There is also a new grid system with projection images and guides to help you with your sculpting.
This is a very exciting update for the ZBrush User Community and free! It doesn’t really get better than that.
