Throughout history there have been major shifts in human behavior with new inventions. Some of these inventions changed our quality of life. Others were created for just for innovation’s sake. The latest and greatest of nonessential inventions is Bubba Watson’s hovercraft.
A publicity stunt to raise awareness for Watson and Oakley, this hovercraft is a golf cart and now a viral sensation. In the video, we see Bubba Watson floating above and around greens, sand traps and small bodies of water.
What Oakley, Bubba Watson and Neoteric Hovercraft did not expect, however, was the demand the video created for hovercraft golf carts. The golf cart they used costs between $16,000 to $20,000, while the hovercraft costs around $50,000. Just enough to keep it out of reach for most people. But the demands came in none the less. And so Bloomberg Businessweek reported that Oakley would actually sell the golf cart hovercraft.
So in the big picture, does this count towards innovation or tomfoolery? Improvement or novelty? We’ll let you decide.
