Content is king. If you’re in the ad world, you’ve heard it a billion times. That’s because it’s true. While design is powerful and it moves us, it is only a tool for telling a story.
It’s what Connecting, incredible short film that touches on these points as well as other, high-level processes for UX design, shows us. Again and again.
It’s incredibly easy to get distracted by eye candy and quickly lose sight of what’s important; thoughts, pictures, movies, stories… Content.
It’s also easy to overdesign and overcrowd when you’re not focused on content. Stripping away everything that is not absolutely necessary should be job No. 1 of a great designer. To build a streamlined experience for users to flow through means taking away all but the bare essentials, and stripping a view down to it’s core functionality.
Designing experiences across multiple platforms is a daunting task, but doing so becomes much easier when taking this minimalist approach. When what is most important has been clearly identified, it becomes very easy to reduce visuals on devices with less screen real estate.
